KCTRH is one of the most magnificent County government project located in Lurambi sub county, which once completed, it will not only serve the residents of Kakamega County but also the catchment area of 13 counties in the lake region. Kakamega County General Hospital had been the most immediate referral centre for health services which previously were being handled by the Kakamega Provincial General Hospital before devolution but it lacked key personnel as well as specialized equipment to handle the needs of patients who require specialized and emergency treatment.
Currently, residents of Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia and Vihiga counties seeking specialised medication have to either travel to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret or Jaramogi Odinga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu or worse still to the Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi which is costly and also pose a health risk especially for emergencies.
The Project is being constructed in three phases. The Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital is a 750 Bed capacity Comprising of the following Facilities;- Accident and Emergency OPD, Radiology ,OPD, Neurology OPD, Nuclear Medicine OPD, Medical Oncology, Paediatric OPD, Radiotherapy, Pneumatology OPD, Surgery OPD, Ophthalmology, Library, Kitchen, Laundry, procurement, Cardiology, Theatres, ENT, Dental, Inpatient Departments, ICUs and HDUs, Wards (all types), Maternity, Laboratories, Amenity, Occupational Therapy, Administration spaces, Research, Funeral Home, Support Facilities, Parking spaces, generator and plant rooms and other support facilities.
